The inception of Premium Events & Design, known then as Premium Events, started off solely as an event planning company and later expanded into a multi-service boutique. When the idea was birthed, the founder, Mariama Taj had no business knowledge, limited experience in event planning and zero start-up funding. Despite having minimal resources, Mariama was not discouraged, but motivated to pursue her new found passion.
On January 30th, 2014, Mariama applied for the official Master Licence for Premium Events. Shortly after, the company received its first client.
Premium Events was later commissioned to produce various events including large music festivals, art exhibitions, conferences, AGMs, and much more.
" There is something magical in bringing a client’s vision to fruition, and allowing them to share that magic with their guests. "
Meet the Founder
“It’s funny how I stumbled into the industry, because I never thought in a million years I would be an event planner.
A few weeks away from graduating university, I vividly recall a phone call with a mentor who was also the Executive Director of a non-profit organization. This phone call changed the trajectory of my life. My mentor asked me, “Mariama, what are you up to? Have you finished school?” and before I could hang up, he had already convinced me to co-project manage a two-day city festival that attracted over 65,000 people annually. After the phone call, I didn’t know how I would pull it off, but I knew I would figure it out, and that I did! That project gave me a clear picture of the various components involved in event planning from sponsorship, to securing city permits, set up and tear down to vendor management. Fast forward to today, if you asked me, I truly can’t see myself pursuing any other career.
Spanning over 10 years in the industry, Mariama has planned and produced a number of events varied in size and purpose. Her broad array of expertise has allowed her to bring creativity to each project and more importantly a high level of professionalism.
A Toronto native, Mariama now lives in Vancouver with her husband and two sons.
